Yummy for Tummy: Fook Yew

Have you been to Shanghai? If you've been there before, perhaps you can tell me whether this Shanghai inspired restaurant is as good as the real Shanghai food.

Me? Nope I've never been to Shanghai before. So I have no idea on what Shanghai food tastes like. So when I first saw Fook Yew at Gandaria City, I have no expectation or comparison about things that I'm about to eat and order. I just asked the waitress on their most recommended items, and the word "sheng jian" came out of the waitress' mouth. Okay! I believe you, fuwuyuan!

According to the magical Wikipedia, sheng jian is  "a type of small, pan-fried baozi (steamed buns) which is a specialty of Shanghai. It is usually filled with pork and gelatin that melts into soup/liquid when cooked."
Of course in this restaurant you won't find the pork-y one. hahaha.

clockwise: baked tomato rice, colorful dumplings, sheng jian, fish with rice krispy

As for the beverages, I was interested with the alcoholic bubble tea. For this one I'm not sure that they sell it on the streets of Shanghai. They named the bubble tea with unique names such as "the shiny rat", "the dancing pig", or "the gummy rooster". The alcoholic beverages was named after the twelve Chinese zodiac.

The restaurant's design. So cute!

Overall the restaurant design is really cute, and the menu are designed attractively. You would want to order all of them if you had unlimited money and space in your tummy. As for the food taste, I think the food tasted 'just okay' :) But hey.. You need to taste it for yourself before you can make a judgement, don't ya?

Sipping my alcoholic bubble tea *CHEERS!*,
